Shauna C. Gauthier, MA, LMHC
Individual & Couples Therapist
I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School (2010) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Psychology (2005) from Metropolitan State University of Denver. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington (#LH61078164, NPI #1083279327) and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of CO (LPC.0021225), I enjoy working individually with adolescents and adults with various issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, complex PTSD, relational/interpersonal conflict, religious trauma and life transitions. As I utilize a systems lens in all of my work, I also work with couples and have undergone Gottman’s level one training. I specialize in issues stemming from a history of various forms of trauma and/or abuse (sexual, emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological). I have experience working with issues related to neurodiversity.
As an advocate of social justice, I understand the impact culture, privilege, racism, heteronormativity, gender binarism, ableism, oppression, classism, ageism, etc. have on our individual and collective development. These contextual elements play an important role in our lives and are considered when determining goals and strengths.
While I am competent in the use of a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, I am most skilled at incorporating attachment theory, trauma-informed narrative therapy, relational and depth-oriented psychodynamic psychotherapy, and feminist approaches to mental health and well-being. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and incorporate that treatment when appropriate and desired.
Research shows that one of the most significant factors in a successful therapeutic experience is the relationship with your therapist. I recognize the courage and vulnerability it takes to enter this particular type of relationship and so I consider it a privilege to connect with each individual I work with.
